Obviously, everyone measuring metrics should know precisely what question that metric is meant to answer, but that's (unfortunately) not always the case. It's important to check both inside and outside the department to make sure everyone fully understands what the metric measurement reveals about the health of the business, and what does it reveal about how effectively business goals are being met. If metrics aren't lining up in a way that answers important business questions, it may be time for re-education on, or elimination of, existing planning metrics.

The moment you lose sight of the end goal of all these metrics, you lose. Remember, the goal of measuring metrics is to create an accurate forecast, which ultimately allows the downstream supply chain to deliver customers the right products at the right time.
